Dr. Daphne Mah is Director of Asian Energy Studies Centre, and Associate Professor at Department of Geography at Hong Kong Baptist University. Her research focuses on social aspects of smart energy transitions, specialising in interdisciplinary research that cuts across the fields of energy technologies (smart grids, solar power, wind energy, nuclear power, and building energy efficiency), energy governance, and sustainability policy studies, with a geographical focus on East Asia covering empirical cases in China, South Korea, and Japan.

Born in Cambodia from Chinese (Teochew) descent, Dr. Emilie Tran became a French national, having grown up and been educated in France. She has been living in Greater China since 2000 (Shanghai, Macao, Hong Kong). Prior to joining the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2016, Dr. Tran had worked at the University of Macau, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the University of Saint Joseph. Along with her academic occupation, she is now serving her second term (2018-2021 & 2021-2026) as an elected official for the French living abroad (Conseiller des Français de l’étranger).

Dr. Kevin Ip is currently Assistant Professor at the Department of Government and International Studies, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). He is the author of Egalitarianism and Global Justice: From a Relational Perspective (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016). Dr. Ip specializes in contemporary political philosophy, with a particular interest in global justice. In addition, he pursues topics in Confucian political philosophy, applied ethics, and critical data literacy.

Mr. Calvin Lai Ming Tsun is a Senior Research Assistant at Hong Kong Baptist University with four years of experience working in Hong Kong and Germany’s research groups. Calvin specializes in smart and sustainable urban development, post-industrial city transition, and policy studies. Calvin especially conducts research on the assessment tool of smart city development as cities’ international comparison, also known as the Smart City Index. Graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Universität Duisburg-Essen, Calvin’s multidisciplinary abilities support the daily operations of research groups, including research design, data analysis, and project management.

Dr. Darren Cheung Man Wai is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow of Asian Energy Studies Centre. Dr. Cheung obtained his MA in Social Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and completed his PhD study in 2015 at The University of Hong Kong. His thesis investigates the dynamics between the government, developers and community in the land supply and land-use planning of public open space in Hong Kong. Dr. Cheung’s research interests include: sustainable energy transition; energy and planning governance; and energy and urban geography. Prior to joining HKBU in 2017, he served various teaching and research positions in the Department of Urban Planning and Design in The University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Dionysios Stivas is Part-time Research Associate and Lecturer in the Department of Government and International Studies (GIS) of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Dionysios has obtained academic degrees in International Relations, Government and International Studies, and International and European Law. In 2020, Dionysios earned his PhD degree from the GIS of the HKBU. Dionysios also holds a Master of Arts in the EU International Relations and Diplomacy from the College of Europe, Bruges, a Master of Laws in European Law from Maastricht University, and a Bachelor of Laws in International Law from The Hague University. Before arriving to Hong Kong to commence his PhD, Dionysios worked as a Legal Consultant for the Organization for the Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris.
